New Generations Guy Coles gives us with the low-down on becoming a ski instructor.

What makes you itch?

“What do you desire? What makes you itch? What sort of a situation would you like? So I always ask the question what would you like to do if money were no object. How would you really enjoy spending your life? Well it is so amazing as a result of our kind of education system crowds of students say we would like to be painters we would like to be poets we would like to be writers but as everybody knows you can’t make any money that way? Or another person says I would like to live an out of doors life and ski. I say would you like to teach in a ski school? Lets go through with it, what do you want to do?”

Alan Watts

We wanted to be skiers and snowboarders and over the last decade we have helped others with the same goal.

At New Generation we run ski instructor courses at all levels of the BASI system. What started as us helping friends has evolved into a complete ski instructor training pathway from BASI 1 to BASI 4. As a fully operating ski school based in resorts across Europe our trainees are our future. As such we believe it is our responsibility to give them the skills and experience they need to not just pass exams but be the best instructors possible.

Our 10 week BASI level 1 & 2 ski instructor courses are the perfect way to kick start your BASI instructor career. With small training groups and weekly language lessons they give you all the skills you need to be a really employable ski instructor and set you up to progress through the remainder of the system. The BASI 1 & 2 programmes we run are just the start of the most complete ski instructor training pathway in the industry. At every level of the BASI system we have a variety of courses for every budget, experience level and aim. From work and train programmes to intense training only weeks, we will work with you to find the right course for you.

Our BASI level 1 & 2 courses are also a great way to spend a gap year. The course is focused but an amazing experience and of course in a ski resort it is always possible to let your hair down at Apres. The best part of earning a qualification through your gap year is that you can use it to pay for your ski holidays and earn money while you are at Uni. The university holidays fit really well with the busiest times of the season in the ski industry. Over Christmas, February half term and Easter ski schools cannot find enough instructors for love nor money. This means you can head to the Alps, go skiing for 6 weeks and earn some money. Oh and all your expenses are paid so there is no need to worry about sorting accommodation or travel.

That’s enough from us though, if you want to find out more please feel free to get in touch on instructorcourses@skinewgen.com or use the contact forms on our Ski Instructor Training website. Alternatively why not check out what students past and present thought of their courses in our stories so far section.
